MISA Fall 2022 Semester
Management Information Systems Association has successfully kicked off our first full-in-person semester! We thank our active alumni for staying in touch and helping our members out!
We are excited to announce that we have increased our member turnout and are back better than ever for the 2022-2023 academic year! Here’s a quick recap of our events through the semester!
Kickoff Event (8/25)
Get To Know FAANG
MISA’s first event of the semester featured current FAANG employees! We hosted three wonderful professionals and they spoke about their company, work culture, and insight regarding their current roles.
We were also able to cover interview and application tips for internships and full-time positions. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions to the panel and received advice. We would like to give a special thank you to our guest speakers for being a part of our MISA kickoff event: Subbu Subramanian, Vicky Yu, and Nathan Handelsman.
Alumni Social (9/8):
MISA’s third event of the semester was an Alumni Social where we invited 8 SJSU MISA alumni to come to connect with us and provide us with career advice. Our members learned about the current job market, roles, company culture, recruitment advice, and more! Resume + Linkedin Workshop with Professor Sessions (9/15):
MISA invited Professor
Richard Sessions
to lead our resume + Linkedin workshop. Members were able to learn skills to improve their LinkedIn and resumes as well as prepare for the upcoming recruiting season! Thank you Professor Sessions!
MISA Recruitment Fair (9/22):
During a busy recruitment season, MISA was proud to host an exclusive MISA-only, Recruitment Fair. Members had the opportunity to network with and learn more about top Bay Area Companies. A special thanks to the recruiters and representatives of KPMG, Veritas, PWC, and EY for being a part of this recruitment event.
Intern Insights Panel (9/29):
Our first MISA social this year was our Intern Insights social! MISA members interning at companies such as Google, Crowdstrike, and HP shared their experiences and insights on careers and navigating college. All attendees had the opportunity to connect with peers over some tasty Cinnabon and we are excited about hosting similar events in the future!
RSM Company Tour (9/30):
Now that our MISA events are fully in-person, we are able to be a part of more company tours! Our first company tour was at RSM Consulting! Our members were able to visit the company office and were able to gain valuable knowledge about the company and its culture. We look forward to more company tours this semester and want to thank RSM for making this happen!
Future in Tech Panel (10/5):
This semester, MISA invited Jeremy King (SVP, Head of Engineering at Pinterest, and former CTO of Walmart) and held an informational event regarding the future of technology in collaboration with SJSU’s MIS Department and Professor Nitin Aggarwal! Members were able to focus on the tech world and think about what technology in the future could look like. Thank you,

Cisco Information Session(10/6):
MISA held a Careers at Cisco Panel! Members learned about the world of tech at Cisco. Members also gained insight from the panelists about their experience and possible careers in the world of networking, cloud, and security solutions. We would like to give a special thank you to our guest speakers for being a part of this event: Meera Nandakumar, Nick Tran, Shwetha Srinivasan, and Piram Singh !
Big & Little Meet N’ Greet (10/13):
MISA’s Big and Little Program has started for this semester! The first Big & Little event gave the opportunity for members to meet their Big and introduce themselves to each other through icebreakers and suggested conversation starters.
Big 4 Panel (10/20):
Lastly, at our most recent event, we hosted professionals from BIG 4 companies in a panel discussion! Members were able to learn about the world of BIG 4 and prepare for the interview/application process of each company. They were also able to understand internship processes as well as the different types of job roles offered. We would like to give a special thank you to our guest speakers for being a part of this event: Ahmar Ali, David Waidjaja, Adina Polmanteer, Alan Nguyen, and Reshma Nawaz !
Careers in MIS Panel (11/3):
MISA held a Careers in MIS Round Robin event which helped our members gain first-hand insight from professionals in the industry holding job roles as program managers, product managers, business analysts, and software engineers. Special thanks to Avinesh PVS, Adit Shrestha, Rida Lasne, and Suhasini Appalla for being incredibly great speakers!
Big & Little Bowling (11/16):
Recently, MISA hosted a fun Big & Little Bowling Social! Members bowled with their favorite big/little and had some fun before the holidays come around the corner!
Women in Tech Panel (11/8):
This month, MISA partnered with WIB (Women in Business) to host the Women in Tech panel! At this event, members got the opportunity to socialize with WIB as well as learn about working in the tech industry from industry professionals. We thank WIB for joining us in this event!
Fintech Panel (11/17):
Our last November event, MISA partnered with FMA(Financial Management Association) to host a Fintech Panel! At this event, members got an opportunity to network with professionals, learn what it is like to work in the Fintech industry, and gain insights on how to make the most out of college. A special thanks to Aman Singh, Joel Hansen, and Shamaun Annes for educating our members on the fintech industry!
