MISA Spring 2023 Semester Recap

Management Information Systems Association has successfully kicked off our first full-in-person semester! We thank our active alumni for staying in touch and helping our members out!


We are excited to announce that we have increased our member turnout and are back better than ever for the 2023-2024 academic year! Here’s a quick recap of our events through the spring semester!

Kickoff Event : Tech Round Robin

(Adobe, Meta, Intel, Zoom, eBay) (2/2):

MISA’s first event of the Spring 2023 semester featured current top tech company employees! Three excellent professionals spoke about their company, work culture, insight of current roles, and future of the company.

 Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions to the panel and received advice. We would like to thank our guest speakers for being a part of our MISA kickoff event: Vishal Sethi , Chinmay Vadagama, and Vadim Cocol


Kickoff Event #2 Speed Networking: Grow Your Network and Build Connections (2/9):


MISA’s second event was a Speed Networking session where members were able to connect with other members as well as the MISA E-Board. Members were able to expand their connections and develop their professional conversational skills. 




Kickoff Event #3: MISA Tableau Workshop (2/16): 


For MISA’s last free kick off event of the semester, we hosted a Tableau Professional Development workshop. This event was led by Kaavya Shah, a graduate Data Science professional and attendees had an opportunity to gain exposure to Tableau, a popular data visualization tool. Attendees also enjoyed some free donuts while developing their data visualization skills! Thank you to Kaavya and for everyone who attended this Tableau ProDev Workshop! 




MISA Recruitment Fair (2/23): 



MISA was proud to host an exclusive MISA-only, Recruitment Fair. Members had the opportunity to network 1:1 with the representatives and learn more about top Bay Area Companies. A special thanks to the recruiters and representatives of Deloitte, Moss Adams, and KPMG for being a part of this recruitment event.





C-Suite Panel (3/2):



MISA was successfully able to host a speaker panel with industry professionals in C-Level positions! Speakers discussed current and previous work experience as well as advice on career development. Members asked the panelists questions regarding various topics and learned more about C-Level responsibilities. Thank you to Sudhir Kumar, Sam Lee, and Chetan Pungaliya for sharing their insights and answering our questions! 

Working at a Startup Event (3/16):

MISA was delighted to host Dave Alpert, CEO and Co-Founder at Geopogo, a software company which builds 3D and AR designs of construction projects. Dave talked about tech startup life, trends and entrepreneurship. He was also able to give insight on the processes of building and managing an efficient startup company. This was a great opportunity for members to ask questions and gain more knowledge about startup culture.







Advanced Excel Workshop (3/23):




MISA invited Professor Myra Haubrich to lead our Excel workshop. Members were able to improve on their Excel skills by learning about new formulas and data visualization techniques. Thank you Professor Haubrich! 

Alumni Round Robin (4/6):




MISA held an Alumni Social where we invited 6 SJSU MISA alumni to connect with us and provide us with career advice! Topics focused around finding a job during a recession, working in tech during tech recessions, and also bouncing back from layoffs. We would like to give a special thank you to our guest speakers and alumni for being a part of our MISA alumni event: Jaanki Patel, Emily Enany, Amity Tran, Nhat Trinh, James Manalili, and David Chiaramonte





Trends in Cybersecurity Panel (4/13):

MISA hosted a cybersecurity informational panel which dove deep into the world of cybersecurity. Our speakers discussed the different aspects of cybersecurity and advice on how to break into the industry. This was a great event for members who have an interest in cybersecurity to ask questions and receive insight on their career path towards information security.

Breaking into Consulting with KPMG and Deloitte (4/20): 


MISA hosted consultants from Deloitte and KPMG who spoke about their experiences, tips, and guidance for how MISA members as well as students can make their start in the industry. A special thanks to the representatives of Deloitte and KPMG for being a part of this event.
